Almost immediately after the announcement that the dukes of Skywind and Feann had merged into a single political entity, messengers were dispatched once again to courts throughout the continent with news of a new alliance. The Grand Duchy of Feann entered into an alliance with Duke Rojax of Lyon.

As Lady Ariadna Montcada begins her great work cataloguing the Domains and Houses of our great kingdom I have endeavoured to put together a simplified heralds guide to Armorial Achievements, more commonly known as Coats of Arms. ((This piece is a mixture of RL convention, in-game mechanics, and some generic fantasy stuff. Enjoy))

While the Kingdom of Arkadia presents itself to the outside world as a shining beacon of hope, strength and unity it has long been whispered that there is a darker more sinister side to the Light Kingdom. It has long been known that Raziel has little toleration for dissent and that those who criticise him or his policies tend to disappear in the night, erased from Arkadian existence in the hearts and minds of her people. These actions have for a long time been seen as acceptable by the citizens of Arkadia, even desirable, the actions of a strong king, one who seeks out undesirables, traitors and spies. Those who have accused the king of tyranny are publically disavowed by the kingdom, or quietly informed upon by their former friends and families seeking to bask in the Sun King’s favour.

Earlier today while investigating apparently unfounded rumours of a new independent ‘city-state’ I had the privilege of interviewing Baron Grenric Layne currently serving in the Court of Demalion as Regent to the Duke of Terenia. We met in a small room a short walk from the throne-room where Baron Grenric sat sorting through papers for his duke and I asked him to give me a Demalion view as to the current situation with Lord Maulvorn. I present our interview to you:

During the last week, my ducal court in Partetribus was approached by a courtier dressed in a Demalion naval uniform. He identified himself to my guards as High-Admiral Vixel of the independent county of Maulvorn, intrigued I let him in. Vixel claimed to be an envoy sent by Count Maulvorn to procure trade concessions and military alliances so that the Count could create an independent ‘city-state’ where free thought and trade could flourish. Understanding Maulvorn to be sworn to the Emperor of Demalion, and both unwilling to risk a diplomatic incident with that great state and unable to conceive of any real chance of success that this ‘city-state’ concept may hold I sent the ‘High-Admiral’ on his way without committing myself or Nirath to anything. I thought little of the ‘High-Admiral’ until I had a chance to speak with Duke Thor at the Kings Court a few days later. Apparently, Maulvorn’s Envoy had approached multiple rulers both within Nirath and, according to reports, beyond Nirath’s borders. Intrigued I began sending out missives to nobles throughout Elyria seeking to learn more of this ‘city-state’ ideal and to find out if it truly had any support.

While the reduction of the complexities of Nirathii politics into broad strokes does a great disservice to both the Court and the nobles and aristocrats that constitute it, this broad stroke method does allow outsiders to glimpse at least partially the actions of those who determine at least in part the direction of Nirath. This Herald’s Guide is a politically neutral guide intended for those outside the Court so that they can understand the issues currently under debate in court and the factions that are beginning to form in Nirath’s political sphere

With the shocking news of recent days that the former Jewel of Nirath, the shining Duchy of Usifan, has, with the blessings of the Divine King, decided to separate itself from our glorious kingdom and seek its own way as a sovereign nation in its own right, many have been questioning what this means for them, their families, and Nirath as a whole going forward. To enlighten our readers the Herald has put together this simple Herald’s Guide to the issues.

In recent days many rumours have begun to circulate regarding the likely secession of the Grand Duchy of Usifan from Nirath. Usifan has always been the largest, and most powerful of the duchies within Nirath, with many likening it in size and majesty to a kingdom all of its own. Well, folks, it seems that the fears of the unionists and dreams of the successionists have come true. Today at four bells past midday the King Regent Rhaegys Audran threw open the Great Hall of Nirath proclaiming to the assembled crowd “Let it be known that our dear Duke Usifan is to be addressed as King from now on. The Kingdom of Nirath is sad to see him go but it wishes the King Usifan. As our brother Kingdom, we will work and stand strong together. All hail King Dragor and King Usifan.”  After a short period of stunned silence, the assembled crowd began to chatter excitedly, some declaring their support for an independent duchy and some regarding the idea as a threat to Nirath. In Court, the Dukes and Courtiers were less shocked, turning instead to the business of governance. While the Great Hall echoed with debates on who would …
